South Korea’s 2013 television series, The Good Doctor, has been adapted into an American medical drama. After seeing the original series, Daniel Dae Kim, an actor, decided to buy the rights for his production firm.

The series was first adapted by him, and he finally pitched it to CBS, where he works. It was decided by CBS not to do a pilot. Kim repurchased the rights to the show from CBS since he was so passionate about it. As a result of the Sony Pictures Television and Kim arrangement, House creator David Shore will be developing the series.
