The Australian actor Robert Taylor plays Walt Longmire, the dedicated, old-school sheriff of the made-up Absaroka County in Wyoming. The show follows Walt and his small staff, including deputy Vic Moretti (Katee Sackhoff), as they investigate crimes in Walt’s county, mixing in plenty of families and personal drama along the way.
The six-season show started on A&E in 2012, but after only three seasons, it was canceled. Netflix saved it in the end, making it one of the lucky few that didn’t die. But all good things must come to an end at some point, and Longmire ended in 2017 after six seasons and three more seasons on Netflix. But why did they stop making the show forever? Well, let’s start by looking at Longmire’s history on A&E.

Longmire Season 7 Episode 1 Canceled: What Is The Reason?

The show’s second season averaged nearly six million viewers for each episode on A&E, making it the network’s most-watched original series in history and an anomaly among original scripted cable television. At the time of its demise, however, ratings had declined. For example, the season 3 finale only had an average of 3.7 million viewers and only 0.6 in the 18-to-49 age group, which is very popular.
While the second figure is somewhat unimpressive, the first is more than respectable. Mad Men’s average viewership never exceeded 3 million, although Breaking Bad’s first four seasons averaged fewer than 2 million per season. It wasn’t until the latter series debuted on Netflix that AMC’s new seasons began to attract a larger audience. Even though Longmire’s ratings had declined over time, A&E’s decision to terminate the show was nonetheless somewhat unexpected. According to Deadline, advertisers prefer younger viewers, and since the show was produced by an independent studio, it wasn’t as profitable for the network as usual.
So, while the cancellation was stunning, one could maybe understand A&E’s reasoning. Netflix cannot be compared to Amazon because it does not rely on commercial funding. Additionally, it is hard to determine the show’s ratings because Netflix does not share that information. There are independent companies that report this data, but it’s difficult to determine their accuracy. Therefore, we may never know if more or fewer individuals discovered Longmire as a result of its new location. The Netflix boost is a real phenomenon that has raised exposure and viewership for shows like Breaking Bad and Riverdale over the years, so there is reason to believe that the former is accurate.

What Caused Netflix to Suddenly Cancel Longmire Season 7 Episode 1?
When Netflix renewed Longmire for a sixth season, it was also confirmed that it would be the series’ final season. Attempting to explain why the streaming service dropped Longmire after six seasons becomes increasingly challenging in the absence of ratings or viewing data. Nevertheless, we have a few reasonable suggestions that are not based on ratings.
First, it’s plausible that Longmire just ran out of steam. By the end of its sixth season, the show had covered a significant portion of the source material from Johnson’s series of best-selling novels, which served as its inspiration. So, it seems likely that the authors decided to end the story instead of trying to keep it going.
Contracts with the actors are another likely cause for the cancellation. Taylor and/or other actors probably had little interest in signing new contracts to keep the program alive, even though many shows have run longer than six seasons due to stars signing new contracts. This could have also played a factor in the termination, as shows become more expensive the longer they run, primarily because of these contracts.
In the end, we may never know for certain why Netflix shut down. All we know for certain is that Netflix granted Longmire three more seasons than it would have otherwise had, and it’s hard to be dissatisfied with that.

Longmire Sherriff, Season 6Walt Longmire’s narrative ended in a way that pleased fans. The season was awesome. It let the actors stretch and resolved concerns. The season concluded with joy. Warning!
Taylor portrayed Walt Longmire. Last season, he dug too deep to find Jacob Nighthorse. Martinez. In season 6, he developed a more balanced opinion on Nighthorse. Malachi Strand (Graham Greene) was nasty. In season 6, Malachi tried to kill everyone. Longmire helps Lou Diamond Phillips (Lou Diamond Phillips) and Vic Moretti (Katee Saackhoff) uncover and arrest the bad men in Wyoming’s county. Corruption and drugs plague the country.
Walt’s daughter Cady (Cassidy Freeman) was popular during season 5. The season passed her by. Cady lost all her clients following an incident with a sick Cheyenne youngster. Walt’s ex-employee, Zach Sloane, held her in Wyoming. Cady suddenly left town, but I won’t tell you why. It was a twist. Vic is played by Katee Sackhoff.
Vic was still pregnant at the season’s end, although not far along. She’s shot in season 6 and loses her baby. Season 6 examined the grief process. Katee Sackhoff showed more emotion in this part than before.
When I wrote about Walt and Vic’s age gap, I found many book readers felt they should be in the TV series together as in the books. Despite my disagreement, season 6 ended well for those fans. Vic told Walt about her love. He should not have taken action as her boss. Vic told John Doman about being a girl and her baby loss. I didn’t like Vic’s final metamorphosis. Vic becomes a housewife after a major sex session with Walt. Nope. Vic and Walt deserved a happy ending.
Despite my regrets about Walt and Vic’s endings, the season was full of danger and drama. Longmire Henry’s days-long shackling by the sun was particularly remarkable. This is a hero’s tale.
Tantoo Cardinal, the Crow medicine lady, is a season 6 character I didn’t include. Her scenes were joyous. I liked Tamara Duarte as Cady’s assistant, Mandy. Wilma Earp Yes.
They gave each excellent character a happy ending. It was excessively sweet and fluffy. They believed fans earned it by salvaging the show and giving it a new life on Netflix. After 5.9 seasons, give them 0.1 that’s nice and warm. Longmire Walt Longmire, the honest American hero, is admired. Robert Taylor portrays him so well that you can’t help but love him. All American males should be kind and decent. I’ll miss watching more of this 6-season series.
