Martin created the WY-30 ASCII computer terminal for use in that facility.

To create a new category of goods called network terminals (today called a “thin client”), Eberhard, Kevin Martin, Ed Basart, Dave Cornelius, Doug Klein, and Mike Harrigan created Network Computing Devices in 1987. It was in April of 1997 when Martin and Marc Tarpenning established NuvoMedia.

Eberhard’s interest in sports cars combined with his worries about oil imports and climate change prompted him to examine electric vehicles as a possible solution. After researching electric sports cars, he became interested in the AC Propulsion tzero and tried to buy one. He was instrumental in both the monetary and technical sides of the company’s transition to lithium-ion batteries. Soon after, Eberhard approached AC Propulsion’s founder, Alan Cocconi, with the idea of mass-producing the zero. In 2003, after Cocconi declined to lead Tesla Motors, a California-based electric vehicle manufacturer, Eberhard co-founded the firm with Marc Tarpenning and took over as CEO.

The three tenets by which Eberhard lives and works at Tesla are:

  1. We must not settle for less when considering an electric vehicle. If the right technologies are used to make them, electric vehicles can be better than the competition.
  2. Battery technology is a battery. When it comes to automobiles, lithium-ion batteries are a game-changer since they enable a practical range.
  3. Electric motors are better than internal combustion engines, so well-made electric cars can convince even the most dedicated car fanatics.

Driving the second of the initial run of Tesla Roadsters, the Founder’s Series is Martin Eberhard (2008). The EPA says that the Tesla Roadster, a sports car that runs on batteries, can go for 244 miles (393 kilometers).

In June 2009, Eberhard sued Elon Musk for libel, defamation, and breach of contract. He said that Musk was to blame for forcing him out of the company, making him look bad in public, and putting Tesla’s finances at risk.In August of 2009, for reasons that have never been explained, Eberhard decided to withdraw the complaint. A Tesla representative did not want to remark on the shift, suggesting that a compromise may be possible. Tesla claimed the settlement in September 2009 but did not offer any supporting evidence.

For his part, Eberhard told CNBC in October 2019 that he is still a Tesla shareholder and hopes the firm does well.
