Shang-Chi 2 Release Date: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the second movie in the MCU’s Phase 4, came out in September 2021 and helped bring movie theatres back into the spotlight. This story of how Shang-Chi came to be shocked the world when it became the highest-grossing movie ever over Labor Day Weekend. This was such an impressive feat that plans were made for Shang-Chi 2.
There are still a lot of questions about how Shang-Chi 2 will be made and when it will come out, but it is known that it will be made in December 2021. Even though the film hasn’t been given an official release date by the people in charge at Marvel Studios, a rumor said that it might still be a while before it comes out.

Speculation About The Storyline Of “Shang-Chi 2”
After the dramatic ending and interesting after-credits scenes of Shang-Chi, Marvel Studios could go in a lot of different directions with the sequel. If we had to, we think the story would be about Shang-sister Chi’s Xialing (Meng’er Zhang). Xialing was supposed to shut down her dad’s terrorist group, but it looks like she’s taken over the Ten Rings for her evil purposes, which we don’t think will make her brother happy.
Since it’s a Marvel movie, we can probably guess that Shang-Chi will be called together the next time a purple alien with a death wish and a cool glove threatens Earth. Who knows, maybe Katy will also join the Avengers like Shang-Chi. Awkafina told us she thought that would be “cool,” but she couldn’t say for sure.
Kevin Feige, who runs Marvel Studios, is already thinking about Shang-next Chi’s adventure. He told Comicbook.com, “The early reactions to the characters and to [Shang-Chi] itself give me a lot of hope that people will want to see more of these characters.”
“We have a lot of ideas about where to put them and where to take them. What’s so fun is that we know a movie is doing well when people don’t just ask about the main character but also about the co-stars or supporting actors.
Speculation About The Shang-Chi 2 Cast
Even though nothing has been confirmed, it seems likely that both Simu Liu and Awkwafina will be in Shang-Chi 2, especially since their friendship is a big part of the end of the action movie. We know that the Ten Rings will come back, so their new leader, Xialing, will probably also be back. If Xialing is back, likely, her lieutenant and muscle Razorfist (Florian Munteanu) will also be back. It would be nice to see more of Michelle Yeoh in the next movie as well, but a return to Ta Lo seems unlikely at this point.
Wenwu (Tony Leung), one of the main characters, is probably the only one who won’t be back. This is partly because he died and partly because his story was finished by the end of the movie. Yes, we know that flashbacks can happen, but we don’t see what bringing him back would accomplish at this point. Jackie Chan, a martial arts legend, is one actor Cretton would love to see in the movie. In a recent interview with Cinemablend, he said, “I mean, if we could ever get Jackie Chan into a movie, that would be a dream of mine for the rest of my life.”
Cretton is currently working on Avengers 5, so the question is, “Will he have time to work on Shang-Chi 2?” We’d like to think so, but we know the MCU machine doesn’t stop for anyone.

Is Shang-Chi 2 Release Date Announced?
To put this story in context, fans are well aware of how frequently Marvel Studios alters its Shang-Chi 2 release dates, even without the global epidemic of the past few years being a factor. Only a few days ago, Marvel shifted one of its future release dates from February 16, 2024, to September 6, 2024, with many speculating that this is to set up Deadpool 3’s long-awaited debut.
Given that this release date is almost two and a half years away and the success of the original Shang-Chi at its September 2021 release, the likelihood of Shang-Chi 2 being released on this date is roughly even. The only other February release in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was 2018’s Black Panther, which grossed well over $1.3 billion, and if box office patterns return to normal, Shang-Chi 2 might achieve those levels.
Previous reports stated that Marvel intended to film Shang-Chi 2 sometime in 2023, which would provide ample time for the picture to be released more than a year after production presumably concludes. Destin Daniel Cretton, however, is a significant question mark in this probable scenario.
Although the director exceeded all expectations in his MCU debut, he is now set to take on even greater responsibilities as the director of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which is scheduled to be released less than three months after this likely release date. If the movies come out so close together, it seems unlikely that Cretton could direct back-to-back MCU movies for the first time.
Fans can’t wait to see more of the expert in martial arts, but the Shang-Chi 2 release date hasn’t been set yet.
